A Gold and Black Ballroom Wedding at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, Michigan
After falling in love with the Masonic Temple's architecture during a holiday party several years back, Laurie Bevevino (31 and a staffing partner) and AJ Bevevino (27 and an email marketing director) immediately knew the historic Detroit ballroom would serve as the perfect reception space. "It had all the small details we were looking for that you can't find in a modern venue," Laurie says. Taking a cue from the venue's elegant aesthetic, the couple used a gilded gold and black color scheme to play up its charm. Laurie and AJ even made the most of their locale by putting a Detroit spin on everything, from the Faygo bottle escort cards to the reception table names. Dressed in a white lace Eugenia Couture design, Laurie and her groom exchanged vows in a traditional church ceremony before making a supremely grand entrance into their ballroom reception. "We're huge hockey fans, so we had everyone in the bridal party enter with a hockey stick," Laurie says. "When AJ and I came out, we were welcomed through a tunnel of sticks." Another detail we loved? The couple's tiered gold cake, courtesy of Zingerman's Bakehouse, an Ann Arbor favorite. "It was honestly the best cake that we've ever tasted," Laurie says. "Plus, it matched our color scheme." Luckily, the couple's close friend and photographer, Erin Schmidt, was on hand to capture every detail on such an important day in Laurie and AJ's story: "Seeing them in this capacity—so ridiculously, gorgeously happy—my heart still feels all the feels," Erin says. Check out all the sweet details below, including a ridiculously creative guest book idea.
